Why rest?

We perform best when we are rested. When we live active, vibrant lives balancing work, family and social committments, it’s easy to fall into a cycle where the rest we obtain from sleep isn’t enough to rejuvinate and restore our body and mind.

We begin to experience a rest deficit and are not able to operate at peak condition. If we experience a rest deficit on a regular basis (this concerns most non-meditators living active lives) we start to produce stress reactions and can develop acute fatigue. In this state, we lack the adaptation energy* required to meet the demands being placed on us. This is not because we are not capable — we simply lack the level of rest required to excel. Adding Vedic meditation to your daily routine gives you two opportunities during the day to rest, recharge and rejuvinate, so you can meet those demands with agility and grace. A regular practice of Vedic meditation helps to keep your adaptation energy cup full, so even when you experience the most strenuous of demands, you are bolstered by a significant rest surplus, and are more resistent to stress.

*Adaptation energy refers to our ability to adapt to changes in expectation, and to meet the demands placed on us. Signs you are low on adaptation energy: if you experience anxiety, overwhelm, inability to find solutions to problems, feeling stuck, indecisive, snapping at colleagues, family or friends, losing your temper, reacting in ways your dislike or regret.
